I’d say regions from exuberant imperial histories like Eastern Rome and China and India; have a specific idea of the ideal beauty, this can go down with harmless blemishes and even the slightest change in skin tones indicated how you were perceived. That’s why empires like the Ottomans had two types of court slaves, the fair skinned were more administrative and the darker skinned were more guards to leaders and the harems. Even modern India have biases based on north and south because of that.

I think the arm they showed was someone else's arm. The cloths and rug looked different. I think it was foreshadowing the person Jinshi is looking for. I didn't catch it the first time i watched it through. I was thinking it was weird they kept showing it too.
