Hey everyone! Once again I want to congratulate you all on the upcoming New Year! Be brave, persistent and inquisitive, don’t stand still, develop. Don't forget about your loved ones and take care of your health, regardless of age. I wish everyone to achieve the goals they have set for themselves and peaceful skies above their heads (believe me, this is an incredibly important THING).

Now here will be my next revelation, which may be unpleasant for you to read, but I will tell it as it is. If you are very sensitive, you can skip this paragraph and read only the very last one. For me personally, as for most Ukrainians, this year has been incredibly shitty (probably the worst of my life). For those who don’t know, several of my school acquaintances and my paternal brother, whom I hardly knew, but still, died. To this day, several more of my childhood friends are at the front, I myself am relatively protected, I have a lawyer friend with good connections and he covers me. What is happening in the country says that 2024 will be even worse. Two years of the active phase of the war have passed, our people do not see any prospects, but they see perfectly well that the whole world traded with Russia and still trades, despite all its documented crimes. Some countries even pretend that there is no war and never happened. The allies are always limiting us and forcing us to fight only on our own soil with enemy forces that are 6 times superior, while we receive several times less military assistance than we request. The war is becoming crueler every day. Our government has been doing incomprehensible nonsense for the last six months and passing inadequate laws (not that it hasn’t done anything like this before, but now this is an unprecedented level), which unties its sleeves and violates the constitution, and the opinion of ordinary people has long been meaningless. There was democracy, but it became ochlocracy. Corruption has risen to record levels. The bureaucracy kills hundreds of soldiers every day because they do not receive medical transfers and equipment on time. The birth rate is the worst in the world, literally. The military in the rear is kidnapping people. Barrier detachments are created at the front, which shoot their own people for not obeying orders. Guys who are at war literally have a choice of going to the battlefield and dying from a Russian bullet/shell or being killed by their own people. This is the beginning of the end. It smells like a bloody coup after which Russia could take over the entire country. I hope I’m wrong about the latter, because the worst thing that can happen is occupation by Russia, and this is even for my city, which was once very loyal to the Russians, and I’m afraid to even imagine what will happen to other cities. In 2014, when Russia captured the Donbass, entire families of people who did not agree with the new self-proclaimed government were slaughtered; I know enough such stories first-hand from those who fled from that hell. Actually, these are the things.

As for the additional versions for Katarina, I will finish them later. Everyone who followed me in December will receive them in private messages. I was literally swamped with work at the end of the year, so I didn’t even really have time to draw, especially against the backdrop of “wonderful news about general mobilization.”

Thank you all for supporting me all this time! See you in the New Year my friends!
Your Longeron

I didn't want to respond on the fly, so i took my time to ponder my answer. To be fair, it's impossible for me to just imagine what's going on for you right now, but your tale echoes what i heard from my grandfathers about the two wars they knew (WWII and the Algerian War, they fought in the second one). To be honest, i'm a staunch supporter of Ukrainian freedom from Russia (since i know what it meant when they invaded the Donbass in 2014) and i truly wish that my government has done, does and will be doing more. But, aside from writing to them to do more, i can't really do more (if i could, i would). I truly wish that next year would be better and that all this nightmare will finally end with an enlightened future for you and for the whole Ukrainian population and not a darkened one. Stay brave, strong, persistent, healthy and as safe as you can be for this New Year. This encompass you and your loved ones. Bonne année mon ami !
