I’d love to learn more about Gaman (我慢) from the podcast’s lens.

Dr. Kirk, there are times you ask a question to your dad, and I get tense, it's like my body expects a fight to erupt. But, nothing happens of course. Your dad takes a moment to think, and then replies, and the conversation continues. These moments also remind me of my conversations with my father. I immediately think "My father would get defensive if he was asked a question like this." There are times I ask him questions to understand a problem at hand (which tends to be my mother), and I sense that he becomes cautious in his answers as if I'm after him.

I just finished listening to Part 2. I have such admiration for your parents - they both seemed to have a touch of “old soul” qualities from the beginning of their very young relationship and saw the beauty in each other and did not let anything or person deter them in a radically different era. I also admire that they always stayed consistent in wanting what’s best for the family unit (and it certainly paid off). P.S. Al, I definitely enjoyed hearing about your Boeing years - as a 35 year flight attendant for a US carrier and having worked intimately each series of aircraft from the 727 to 777 both domestic and international - I have always admired how each aircraft series was so well designed and engineered for the crew to work with ease. An exciting time for you to work in the PR dept - for sure!! Solid Gold parents!
