Part of what is confusing for me as someone who (as ancestry.com pointed out) is a Heinz 57 mix (my highest ethnicity amount is around 10%) is the aligning of a culture/religion/country. I think I understand it intellectually as best I can. I totally support my neighbors. I live in an area where nuance is difficult to speak of (look up Jewish population of Newton MA). As soon as you mention that Israel may have been able to take a less destructive approach, you get chewed out for not thinking that Hamas's attack and kidnappings was a terrible thing. Of course I do. But I have come to understand that saying anything negative about Israel is very personal for them. Even for a lot of folks who have never traveled there, the country defines their identity/culture/religion/country. So it is a difficult topic from all angles. 💞
