I can believe that its tough - it happened to me although subconsciously. I think in trying to protect our children we gravitate toward more conservative decisions that we wouldn't even consider if we only needed to worry out ourselves.

tough - i had a tear jerking argument w a v good friend about this where we love each other so much and have similar values but our politics are so different and it comes down to where we are in life where she has to worry about immediately protecting her children but has great anxiety about the world shes raising children and im still single with an altruistic low-paying career but realize that i'll need sacrifice some things if i want to provide for a family. tough cookies.
