Don’t let the people who get angry based on their incomplete misreading of a thing you’ve said, discourage you from continuing to make content <3 As to whether personality disorders should justify a ‘not guilty by reason of insanity’ verdict, I can see both sides. There’s increasing evidence that psychopathy is present from birth, but that an abusive and neglectful childhood can mean the difference between a high functioning, non violent psychopath who competes and dominates in more acceptable arenas (like some entrepreneurs/founders) and a low functioning one like the kind that end up repeatedly in front of judges. Arguably, someone who commits crimes due to a condition that is the result of biology and adverse childhood experiences could be said to have had ‘no choice’ as to end up that way, though I believe we always have free will to disregard our tendencies and influences it will be like fighting upriver. The big problem for me in giving them the same treatment at the same facilities as people suffering from psychosis, suicidal depression, etc is what happens when you mix a very vulnerable population with one which is predisposed to search for those weaknesses and take advantage of them for narcissistic gain, power, finances, sex etc. The interpersonal ‘games’ and dominance hierarchies of prison are what result from having a substantial minority or majority of such personalities, and for people with a tenuous grasp on consensus reality and other advanced mental health needs, even just people with addiction struggling to stay sober, having even one or two people with strongly antisocial traits can sabotage multiple other patients’ recovery. People with borderline personality (and all abuse survivors who revictimize, regardless of their diagnoses) can fit into either the vulnerable or predatory role in this dynamic depending on whether they are on a high or low point in the self awareness cycle, sometimes both at the same time. A separate treatment program specifically for people with what used to be called cluster B type disorders, I think would be necessary to have any chance for people with other cluster or non-personality disorders to experience substantial recovery. We all know how incapable the prison system is at providing a humane and supportive growth environment for people with mental illness, and without intervention, forensic inpatient hospitals become just as bad, just with stronger meds. One interesting approach I’ve seen to handle this issue is in some states there is a third verdict ‘guilty but insane’ for people with personality disorders, or whose mental disorder was deemed to not be fundamental to their crime but still needs more intensive treatment then they get in prison. The other big difference is that once they complete their treatment program of undetermined length to the satisfaction of the authorities, instead of being released on parole they serve the rest of their minimum sentence in prison and the rest of the process proceeds as if they had been judged guilty. Maybe this will be implemented in Washington.

First of all, I am sorry you’re receiving so much criticism. I’ve listened to every second of every episode of these series - and i feel like you’ve been very fair. You’ve shown yourself to be a very compassionate person and it is very evident that you’ve been trying to show all aspects to consider for people to form their own opinions. Thank you so much for all the work you have put in. Second of all!!!! I would like to hear a “deep dive” on Star Wars characters!!! I am obsessed and i would love to hear your opinion on some characters like Darth Maul or Obi-Wan. I don’t want to make my obsession your problem but if you’re looking for anyone to push you just a little bit to do this series - then here i am! I know it is a little bit harder to do Star Wars because they have Canon and Legends to consider. But the reason I mention Maul is because the cartoon series Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) and Star Wars Rebel created such a heart breaking character arch. I know they’re cartoons but they’re really good for character developments aside from the books. Also if you’ve already done deep dive episodes for Star Wars characters disregard what I said!! Thank you for everything you do for this community!!!
