My ex therapist said the same...that my mom hates me and always has. Then she said her mother was the same. She was doing therapy with my mother and myself. My mother is in her elder years and I was trying to help her get funding for my father's long term nursing care and she was making it impossible to complete the paperwork so I brought her to therapy to see if we could work through it. That therapist ended up crossing so many lines. That was seriously at the low end of the spectrum of the poor choices she made with me. So yes, bad therapist. No one should ever say something like that. If true that is up to the client to articulate and a therapist to offer support with but it should never be first articulated by the therapist. They can offer psychoeducation about difficult people or personality disorders if applicable but saying your parents hated you rather than they were damaged, hurt, disordered, and not capable of different is just wrong.

Thank you so much for making the distinction between Christians who wish to manage and judge others and Christian who are focused on loving and accepting others.
