Thanks Kirk and Bob for answering my question about handling criticism! Listening to you both explore that was therapeutic in itself. Like Kirk I also grew up to associate ‘success’ and ‘performance’ with love and acceptance, so I guess that’s why I have the more negative kind of perfectionism which can be paralysing. I could definitely learn to accept that I am not (and don’t need to be!) perfect and have more of a sense of humour about my very human mistakes… I’ll work on that! :)

That one writer being exploited: I think her therapist means her ex only stays in contact with her to gain information from her experience and issues to use it for his advantage to attract women so he can have sex with them. Or maybe only stays in contact with her and brags to other women about him still staying in contact with his ex, who has issues, in the hopes that the other women will think he's being a great supportive guy because of it and will have sex with him.
