Here are the instructions for accessing the premium, patron-only episodes.

READ THIS ENTIRE MESSAGE (TWICE) BEFORE YOU GIVE UP.

We apologize for these long, detailed instructions. They are necessary because software engineers have not yet developed an easy way for this process. Also, hundreds of other patrons have found success with these instructions. So if you run into a problem, keep trying.

As a Patron, you get access to the Premium episodes in the following ways:

1) On your phone podcast app by manually subscribing to premium fee which is separate from the regular podcast feed - the premium feed has the most recent episodes, both premium and regular, but since podcast technology only allows 300 episodes, some of the other premium episodes are not available.

2) On our Patreon page - this has many of the premium and regular episodes, but not all.

3) At the “Patron Eps” tab on our website (PsychologyInSeattle.com) by using the password listed below. This has ALL the premium episodes and none of the regular episodes. It's the only way to listen to old premium episodes.

Everyone, including non-patrons, get access to the free episodes (which doesn’t include the patron-only episodes) in the following ways:

1) On their phone podcast app by subscribing to the regular podcast feed

2) On our YouTube channel

3) On our website

If you have trouble accessing the Premium episodes, please email contact@psychologyinseattle.com. We’re here to help. Don’t be shy.

Here’s how to get access to the Premium podcast feed on your phone.

Android phones:

For Android phones, Podcast Addict appears to be the only app that displays the most episodes on the Premium feed. So, if you want access to all the patron-exclusive episodes (which started Oct 1, 2015), Podcast Addict is your best choice. That’s the app I use. I like it. To add the premium feed on Podcast Addict, you click on the plus sign, then the plus sign again, then “RSS feed…”, add the URL. Check the “Authentication” box. Add login and password.

For Pocketcast, click on search icon, and enter the following URL: http://patron:empathyftw@psychologyinseattle.com/podcast?feed=premium

(On Patreon, this URL is truncated. Make sure the last word is “premium”.)

For Android, Podkicker and Podcast Republic also appear to have access to older episodes on the premium feed. Castbox doesn’t allow adding password protected podcasts.

iPhone:

For iPhones, launch Podcasts from your Home screen, then tap Library at the bottom of the screen, then tap Edit on the top right of your screen, then tap Add a Podcast by URL, then add the URL and password, and tap subscribe.

For iPhone, I think Downcast is the best app. Let me know.

The following apps work, but for some reason you don’t have access to episodes from a few years ago: iPhone Podcasts, RSS Radio, and PodCruncher.

On Podkicker, you click the plus sign, then the “RSS” tab, then enter the URL below, check the “password protected podcast” box, add the username and password below, and hit “subscribe.”

On RSSRadio, you click on the plus sign, then “more”, then “Enter the URL Manually”, then enter the URL below, then enter the user name and password below, then click “done”.

The Premium feed doesn’t seem to work with Stitcher, Ziepod, or Player FM.

Background on podcast feeds:

We have 2 podcast feeds: 1) the regular feed has all the free episodes (about 700 episodes) with advertisements; and 2) the Premium feed has all the Patron-exclusive episodes and MOST of the free episodes (about 400 episodes). The reason why the Premium feed doesn’t have ALL 700 episodes is because at first I was only publishing the patron-exclusive episodes on the Premium feed. But then patrons asks for all the episodes to be put on the Premium feed, so I started doing that. I’ve been slowly (about 1 per week) adding old episodes (2008-2015) to the Premium feed, but not all at once, because I was worried that would overwhelm the Premium feed with super old episodes. Eventually, all the episodes will be on the Premium feed.

Patreon has all the patron-exclusive episodes, and in mid-2016, I started including free episodes there too. So Patreon doesn’t have all of the episodes.

Login:

URL = http://psychologyinseattle.com/podcast?feed=premium

(On Patreon, this URL is truncated. Make sure the last word is “premium”.)

user = patron

password = empathyftw

DON’T just click on the URL or use it in a web browser. Only use the URL in a phone podcast app.

DON’T change the password! To avoid forcing everyone to register, all Patrons are using the same login. So if you're ever in a position to change the login, please don't. If you change the login, everyone else loses access to the Premium feed, including us. (I know this is janky, but it’s the easiest method for users.)

Again, if you have trouble with the Premium feed, please email us at contact@psychologyinseattle.com - it's much easier to give you directions over email.

We apologize for these long, detailed instructions. They are necessary because software engineers have not yet developed an easy way for this process.

Thanks for being a Patron! We love you!
