I always feel really sad and hopeless when you talk about how hard therapy has to be, and how long it has to be that way. I struggle to see the point in going through it at all, it seems like it's only marginally better than just giving up. Saying it can get better, but only after years or decades of increased suffering feels the same to me as saying it can't get better...What am I missing?

Yes. I get that. But it would be a lie to say that things will get better quickly. Lots of internet people make such claims but they're usually false. Yes, things do usually get better with therapy, secure attachments, healthy living, etc. But life has inherent difficulties and suffering. And yes, it's normal to be sad about that. I'm sad about that. But I'm never hopeless. I always have hope and optimism because things do usually get better when we believe and we take measures to improve our lives.
