I think the chernobyl was so well liked because of all the countries affected by the disaster were being made fool of for SO long and so they finally felt justice? At least that was exactly my main emotion after watching this. I was born 9 years after, in a country that shared borders with Ukraine and we never got enough information neither from school system nor our parents because our parents were literally being lied to by news and media. They were told everything is alright and there’s nothing to worry about while lot of my peers were born still affected by the radiation. If you consider how many ppl that is just in Europe and then everyone we made watch it, how much of america’s population are european immigrants, I kinda get it. However neither I expected it to be so well liked amongst the whole world, but it definitely weirdly satisfied me. Also I’d highly recommend checking out some YouTube travellers ( “bald and bankrupt” is amazing ) going there, to see the real devastation, as that wasn’t very well depicted in the show - in my opinion.
