Scamumentary!! New fav word. The whole story breaks my heart. My sisters and I as kids watched the cartoon, watched the Jackson 5 appear on all the dopey variety shows of the 70s. They seemed so much like us...They liked animals! There was a bunch of them! Unlike us, they were actually very talented and entertaining. Us forcing our parents to pay a quarter to watch us tape dance to "The Red Red Robin Goes Bob-Bob-Bobbing Away" is not talent. But in the late 80s and 90s that changed. His music to me sounded a bit sinister an odd, tough, macho facade for someone who didn't seem particularly aggressive at all. The whole Neverland Ranch always seemed off. Who needs the skeleton of poor John Merrick? Let the poor guy's bones rest! I was sad to hear the first allegations of misconduct; but I wasn't shocked. I was even sadder to hear how terrible his childhood was. That was heart breaking. I was even more heartbroken watching the Leaving Neverland documentary. It was obvious that they men in the film truly loved him and they were devastated when he grew out of them (or they got too old). Imagine what Michael Jackson could have accomplished if he had not suffered so as a child. If he hadn't had to hide his true self every single day of his life.

I appreciated the subtleties in Humberto's comment about the Aztec pyramids. Yes, on one hand, I can make a statement by, for example, never going to a Mel Gibson or Tom Cruise movie. But I also buy an iPhone that's likely made in conditions that are oppressive to workers. And how about the clothing we wear that's almost all made in China? I still haven't quite been able to play my Michael Jackson playlists that I use when I'm running. But I haven't deleted them either.
