I love this. I wish I took this course a year ago. Not only did we not learn about private practice in my masters program, we were actively discouraged from opening a practice, and when I started mine my program director told me it was a bad idea. Throughout my classes, private practice clients were mocked as not as needy as clients in agencies. While that’s true systemically, trauma and suffering doesn’t discriminate based on SES. It was really disheartening at the time, but that was their shit. I actually have clients who want to be in therapy, who want to pay my full rate, and I have less stres and more free time.

Wow. Awful. I'm sorry you went through that. Yeah, I've seen that before. Until the voters and politicians allocate a higher salary for public clinicians, most of us need private practice just to pay off our loans, at least as a side hustle.
