I have not watched either movie, but I intend to! I really liked that you pointed out the comments about people commenting that they were “too easy on white people” for the movie BlackKKlansman because as you mentioned, there were (and still are) white allies to the racial equality movement. I recently visited the National Civil rights museum and was reminded about the diner “sit-ins” during the civil rights movement and one of the areas had mug shots of all the people who had been arrested which composed of black and white people. It was heart-warming to witness, especially during this time where the media mainly highlights the hate rhetoric on social media, to know and remember that people of all colors have always come together to peacefully fight the wrong that they see. I’ve become more aware that when I stay away or ignore the negative rhetoric out there, that in my day-to-day interactions I witness positive interactions among all ethnicities. Yes racism still exists, but so does kindness, love, and acceptance. I guess my point is that we all have the power to be inclusive, be kind, be accepting, and be the change we want to see in the world.
