Thank you for this, Dr. Honda. As a layperson with only a superficial education on topics in psychology, I definitely had this shallow view of Freud and a general sense of disdain for Freudian concepts. I appreciate this breakdown of those assumptions and it has really changed my views on the subject and the kind of therapy I might seek for myself going forward.

I am currently taking abnormal psychology and silently stewing everytime my books states that there is little evidence the psychodynamic approaches are effective. My text also only tends to highlight the Freudian aspects of psychodynamic theory. I'd love to hear more about the data around contemporary approaches to psychodynamic theory if you feel compelled to add that to your request list.
