As a new counsellor, I am concerned about how I will remember what a client has shared if I write only brief and superficial things. Any advice? Just have a great memory? Thanks!

Good question, Amanda. No one expects you to remember everything, so I wouldn't worry too much. But for the important details (e.g., spouse name, death of parent), I would just jot down a few words to remind you - in your psychotherapy/process notes, not your progress notes. And then, just before the next session, skim your psychotherapy notes to remind you about the important details. That's what I do.
