Content

Very recently, EA/Maxis has changed their terms regarding paid access to mods. It appears, for the time being, that no modder-created content will be allowed to be gated behind a paywall. This includes both early access and Patreon-exclusive rewards.

EA/Maxis has also stated that they are okay with creators receiving monetary donations as long as a creator's custom content is available fully free of charge.

Unless they change their policy, this means I'll no longer to be able to offer the same tier rewards.

I anticipate that without early access or exclusive content, patrons will want to cancel their pledges. That's totally understandable! I'm appreciative of every last bit of support I've received while I've been creating for TS4.

If I do continue to operate my Patreon, there may be people who want to donate even without early access/exclusives. Which leads me to wonder: what kind of other content could I offer donators to help make your experience more worthwhile?

1) More sneak peeks at what I'm making?
2) Opportunities to directly vote on future CC?
3) The ability to request customizations for existing content (which would then be shared publicly)?
4) Other things I'm not thinking of?

Like I said, I'm still thinking about how to approach all of this at the moment, and about what I want to do going forward. Any feedback would helpful in my decision making process and would be greatly appreciated!

I don't believe they define a maximum duration for early access content for the purpose of debugging. Do with that information what you will. You can also gate the amount of content released behind revenue goals, akin to kickstarter campaigns. Requires more upfront planning but might end up serving as an unexpected source of motivation / inspiration if people donate up front to a feature.

I think they backtracked on early access? I don’t think there’s harm in continuing with that, especially when many other creators are still continuing with that.

Oh, that's an interesting idea! Yes, it would require some more thinking and planning on my part, but it could be a nice way to incorporate user feedback and allow people to help influence or shape future content.

Yeah, it looks that way - I haven't fully finalized my plans re: reward tiers, but having that on the table is a good option.
