Through one of her spells, Zatanna finds a disturbance in her universe. She comes upon a deranged sorceress clad in red that is gathering magical energy from different dimensions to help her gain power. Zatanna prepares to battle the witch, but is quickly overwhelmed by impossible magic trapping her in a nightmarish illusion that causes her to pass out. She awakens to her being encased in a floating magic boxes used in the infamous saw-in-half trick. She sees the witches glowing eyes at the box that trapped her feet, delicately removing her heels. "Ah my lovely assistant is awake..."sneered the Scarlet Witch. "It's time for the show to start!"
