This ring of rock hides a weird phenomena : a perfectly smooth sphere which hums and releases an icy dark whirlpool. Although rare these anomalies seem to have appeared since the grasp of Auril on the Icewind Dale. Some they they are a source of power for her, others that they are a manifestation of her weather control. Will your party dare to approach to study it ?

You could have the party stumble upon one anomaly and try to investigate on how to destroy it as it seems to generate darkness and cold in the area. That would be the start of a whole quest but a quest for knowledge. Once the anomaly is destroyed the area around is free of magic cold, blizzard and darkness for a time. It may also weaken Auril and her minions in some way.
