hello dear patrons! (◕‿◕)♡

I've been in study mode 🤓 lately and trying to learn new skills and techniques from my favorite art. it's fun putting my thinking cap on and reverse engineering a piece of art. diving into stylistic choices and why they work have made me reconsider my painting approach as well.

1,2 - I recently came across this painting 'Thyra Elisabeth' by Ellen Thesleff and have been captivated by it ever since:

.......like com'n now. I've been studying her expressionist style and trying to recreate the key characteristics. I'm in love with the textures, low contrast, and range of colors she incorporates in the soft shapes. it's always fun spending time with a piece of art and deconstructing it to figure out what about it is catching your attention and making it special. I took some notes while practicing in hopes of transferring some elements to my future paintings. always much to learn!

3 - my oc sleepy creature! I'm starting to build out her world a bit by exploring the objects and symbols that I think represent her. I don't have much experience with oc worldbuilding, so it's been fun to approach it in my own way and add to it organically. I've also done some writing exploration of her world that's been helping me further visualize her personality and surroundings.

4 - sketchbook pose practice! I love drawing with pencil and paper, it feels like second nature. as mentioned in my previous sketchdump, poses are one of my favorite things to sketch to stay loose and lively with my lines.

5,6,7 - overwatch sketches and hands practice. I got a rainbow set of highlighters as a gift recently and they've been super fun to use in my sketchbook. :D I love getting to scribble with random art supplies like ink pens and color pencils. traditional art truly has its lovable quirks, the sound of utensil on paper, the slight gripping feeling between the surfaces, and being messy and letting all the layers show through.

Thanks so much for reading, I hope you have a lovely day! °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖°

your sketches remind me so much of gretel lusky’s! the movement, the expression, your poses are so dynamic and fluid ✨ sleepy creature is adorable, i love them!! and the warmth of the skin tone you achieved in that first attachment — wow. the painting you shared is so interesting! it’s almost more curious how the eye makes you think you see what *isn’t* there: a neck, a body. your brain fills it in. very liminal, i like it.
