Hello! ☆ ~('▽^人)

I've been using Procreate again for digital art and I'm realizing how much I missed it! It's such a compact, user-friendly program and I love how intuitive it feels to draw with. To get used to the layout and features again, I made a digital painting of American McGee's Alice.

Key points: (✧ω✧)

  • I like to start out with small thumbnail sketches to get a gist of what overall composition looks best. Super simple to start with, no details at this point!
  • Lately, I've been prioritizing values before colors. I use a single green hue to arrange my values in a way that emphasizes the parts I want to focus on (areas of higher contrast draw attention while areas of lower contrast recede into the background).
  • I adjust the colors with the selective Curves tool, which allows me to quickly change the monochromatic scheme and add in skin tones.
  • I throw an Overlay layer in a warm color across her face at the end to add more saturation to that area and further draw in the eyes.

I hope this video was useful or interesting to watch! I love how Procreate automatically records speedpaints for you, such a useful feature!

As always,

Vicki

I really enjoy Procreate too…my skills are subpar when compared to yours, but it’s a fun app to create in, and I appreciate your tips, as always ;)
