Hello everyone!

Hope you have all been doing well or doing okay. The image I'm sharing with you today is a crop of a full piece I'm currently working on! This piece has gone through MANY iterations and I nearly gave up on it because I felt like it wasn't going anywhere. However, I found myself coming back to it over the course of a month and decided to take another stab at it. I'm so glad I did, because it's finally starting to come together the way I had imagined it in my head and THAT is the feeling and moment that I chase when making art. The title 'Recurring Dreams' speaks to that seemingly endless process as well as the otherworldly feeling I was attempting to evoke.

I want to briefly discuss politics because to not would feel incredibly disingenuous. The current state of America's political climate has been, well, it's been bad. Since the election results were announced last Tuesday I've been in an emotional state that can only really be described as thoroughly and exhaustingly awful.

Therefore, it's been more imperative than ever that I find ways to cope that are not self-harming or detrimental to my health. I've delved into my art and questioned myself to better understand my motives for creating. Generally, I make art for a few key reasons: it's fun, I enjoy making pretty things, and it's a form of self-expression. But this past week has really made me rearrange my priorities and I realize that there are issues I feel much more strongly about than I had previously thought. I want to use my art to speak about and support people and marginalized groups that I feel strongly for. A lot of people, including myself, have felt deeply dehumanized and invalidated this past week and that should not be happening. I want my art to help pave the way for a more inclusive, more understanding, and more open future. I feel more invigorated and empowered than ever before and will use this purpose to guide my work.

I love you all. Have a great day or night and please look out for one another.
