Roger Stern's novelization of The Death & Life of Superman is my first (and by far easiest) intro to this Superboy. I think making him a hero of tthe Pacific is an interesting idea, especially if we add in supernatural beings like Pele; there's no Superman who deals with magic frequently after all.
