What a fun question! I think Superman: Red Son would be an excellent story to try and tell in a more modern setting. What if Supes was growing up in Russia right at the time of the fall of the Iron Curtain, rather than in the heart of the Cold War? How would his life be influenced by the social and economic upheaval that occurred in Russia in the 90s, followed by the rise of Putin? Would even be interesting to see how Lex Luthor reacted and interacted with Putin, while his wife Lois struggled with feelings for a Russian operative in an era where "collusion with Russia" is on the minds of people all the time. Plus, just think about how fun it would be to watch all the people screaming about how comics shouldn't be political, despite the rather explicit political nature of the original material. For both the story it could tell and the real-world attention it would garner, Superman: Red Son is my choice.

As a kid growing up in the 70's, some of my favorite runs of the Justice League, were crossovers with Earth 2's JSA. I was fascinated with the similar but different characters, some of which seemed very out of date in the 70's (let alone now). Among those heroes, I was fascinated by The Crimson Avenger. As a full on comic nerd even then, I had some Golden and Silver age comics with the initial 2 versions of the character. In the early 2000's a new version of the character appeared (Jill Carlyle), who had teleportation and intangibility powers, and was in possession of the original Crimson Avenger's pistols, that had a curse on them that Jill became intwined with My "What If" story is simple What If The Crimson Avenger Saved The Justice League It would essentially be a live action telling of the origin of the pistols, the curse, and ultimately Jill's origin story as the new Crimson Avenger. The story could build to a climax of her meeting (and saving) members of the current Justice League, from a murderous group of villians (super or not, crime syndicate, obviously evil either way), who somehow got the upper hand in a battle with the JLA members, until the Crimson Avenger teleports in, and lays waste to the bad guys. The film could leave it on a cliffhanger of whether they would thank her and ask her to join, or freak out and fight her as well (since she would have gunned down the criminals). I personally think this could establish her as a complex, interesting, multi-layered hero/anti-hero, and an unforseen ally and/or adversary who is powerful and a force to contend with.
