PSuch a good movie. “Finns arm is mint!” with the timing at the end of the movie? Perfect. Gwen has visions in dreams, Finn can communicate with the dead, so that’s how he was able to hear the phone and speak to the boys. They both got the “gift” from their mother. Ethan Hawke can play creepy so easily, and his tonal changes throughout were impressive. The girl that played Gwen, Finns sister did an amazing job and I think this was her first big acting role. It’s kind of a split personality situation. At one point he acts as though he doesn’t know what Finns talking about when he says he grabbed him. Also, sometimes he comes down to see Finn wearing only half of the mask, either revealing the eyes or the mouth, like the two theatre masks, kind of a happy/sad situation, but also can be looked at as a split personality kind of approach to the storyline. That every piece of information each boy gave him, helped him escape in the end, he used it all. He finished digging the hole Bruce started, then put the window grate he pulled down at the bottom of the hole like Billy told him to. This was how the grabber fell and bent and broke his ankle on the grate. Griffin wrote the number of the combination of the lock on the wall so when Finn killed the grabber, there was no hesitation on trying to get out of the house. Robin taught Finn how to attack with the phone which he then strangled him with but not before the spirits speak to the grabber and tell him his time is up, to which the compliment we hear from Bruce in the beginning to Finn, “Your arm is mint” he puts that to play and breaks his neck. Lastly, Vance showed Gwen the number of the house in her dream and in telling Finn to dig to get through the freezer to break through to the kitchen, even though he couldn’t get the doors opened so it looked like it was wasted effort, to keep the dog away at the end, with the freezer being open in the back, the steaks had defrosted and he could toss one to keep the dog entertained. The black phone was how Finn communicated with the dead and it was ultimately how the dead helped Finn kill the grabber, by way of information and by encouragement for Finn to end what the grabber had started.
