I noticed a couple of things. Cristen was so intent on who he perceived as a threat - the Knight of Kisses- that he missed the very real ones -- Daemon, who is still intent on his niece, and Alicent, who pretty much just declared to her own House that she was going to fight once her husband was dead. Cristen also could have seen the threat of the Knight of Kisses as someone who could potentially defame his Queen, as well as potentially destroy the stability of her throne by exposing her husband's proclivities. Killed the young man and then went to take his own life, which would also punish himself for sleeping with his ward, killing someone in anger, and protect his queen from rumors. It can be seen from many angles.
