Guys, the king had to choose. They would’ve died both. At least he tried to save one of them! These situations even happen today. Child birth is so dangerous.

His wife would've died regardless honestly. It was just a case of if he could save the baby or leave it in the God's hands so to speak. Unfortunately, his son died anyway but the wife wouldn't have made it. Mu issue was that he didn't tell her what was happening. She, more than likely, probably would've told him to choose the baby but he avoided confrontation. Like he did the whole episode.
