Season 2 already confirmed

Wayleran

The ending still moves me. I love the way it ended without a spectacle of battle and CGI. Like Toranaga said, "Crimson Sky is already finished". Mariko's sacrifice, which btw Toranaga DEFINITELY foresaw, was the final stroke. He even says he doesn't shape the wind, he just studies it. Like all the people he surrounded himself with, he studied them, knew what they'd do and how they'd react in certain situations. Like Mariko's desire to end her life while still having purpose, he gave that to her. Yabushige's greed and desire for power and willingness to betray Toranaga, he knew what he'd do and relied on him doing it and betraying him and getting Mariko killed. Even his oldest friend, Hiromatsu, he knew he'd take his own life to try to convince Toranaga he was making a mistake. Toranaga used that sacrifice to really sell his ruse of "defeat". And Anjin, the one he was the most unsure about, did exactly what he'd hope. He sowed division amongst the Regents by openly defying the Catholics. In the end the only thing Toranaga wasn't sure of was if he could really trust Anjin and as he stated Mariko's deal to let the Catholics destroy his ship in exchange for Blackthorne's life lead to the final test to show Toranaga the man's character. Incredible story. BTW, the show was intended to only be one season as the original novel is only a single book and even the original 1980 TV show was only 5 episodes. But they decided that due to the popularity and reception of the show they'd extend it to exactly 3 seasons. While I'm very excited and cautiously optimistic about that, it has to be said we're going into uncharted waters in a way and let's hope they can create a compelling story going forward and it doesn't end up like GoT after they progressed beyond the books and started to "tell their own story". That travesty was due to the obscene egos of the two showrunners of GoT who got caught up in their own narcissism and wouldn't listen to HBO or even George R.R. Martin who wanted to help but they thought they knew better.
