Found my new ringtone. And when I say new, I mean I guess I'll start using a ringtone...

I like it, but did I just pay 5$ for that?

Anonymous

The $5 was for the Trouble With Transporters, according to Patreon billing, which also at that level included the wallpapers.

My new ringtone...

Oh MODEM sound; I thought you said MODERN. (I still miss the old days of dialup modems and BBSes; the internet for all its greatness isn't as much fun as the early pc days.)

Ah modems - the good old days of 300bps, the magic of getting a dial-tone out of a box by by typing "ATDT", staring with hushed hope at at he "CD CR" LEDs... the thrill of getting the modem to talk to the RS-232 port on the back of your brand new Viglen PC, never mind actually managing to get it to connect to anything... listening to devices negotiate with each other an acceptable speed; "Yes, that *is* 14,400 bits per second", you could confidently say, glancing quickly at the speed LEDs... There is a whole generation who will grow up in the mute landscape of Wi-Fi, never knowing the richness of the experience *before* you would (finally) get the word... "READY".

That's a 2400 baud modem; for a 14k4, you need the initial ting, ting, ting, ting carrier, and then after the final kssshhhhhh you need to get suddenly louder as the data compression kicks in.

I'm such a nerd that I was able to identify not only the modem speed by the sound, but also tell from the mess appearing on the terminal screen if the RS232 port was set too fast, too slow, or 7E1 instead of 8N1.

PotatoGod_777

someone should do the 800% slow down or whatever from that early cortex episode/ HI maybe
