Funny coincidence, as the video cut to black the first time I got an e-mail notification. :D

Grey, I loved this one almost as much as the coffee episode, which ironically is what got me hooked on your videos. Well done.

Tara Berry

Today was the first time finally using my CGP Grey stainless steel cup and I get a new video? I should’ve used it long ago!

Throbbing suspense : )

That video is GREAT

Man this one is my new favorite

Anonymous

Holy crap - I am totally going to that museum and demanding answers in person!

Anonymous

huge respect for telling the story even though it was maybe personally unsatisfying- still super interesting for all of us!

I increased my patronage level for this month so you can have another cup of (internet) coffee for your trouble!

If you ever need something obscure looked up at the NYPL again, I don't live thousands of miles away, and would be happy to use my membership for something other than printing Amazon return labels.

Like many New Yorkers I have never actually been to Staten Island and have been meaning to go just to round out the claim that I've been to all five boroughs. I nominate that all tri-state area CGP fans make a day trip together to Staten Island and to this museum, in the name of obscure history.

Love a good detective story

I found the video very enjoyable. However, I'm confused that you present the Billopp story as one that is generally believed to be historical, and that on Cortex you say it took a long time to find other sources who had looked into it and found it to be untrue. For more than a decade the Wiki article on Staten Island has said the story's apocryphal, referencing a NY Times article from 2007 that comes to the same conclusion as you and cites some of the same original sources ("That Old Tale About S.I.? Hold On Now" by Sewell Chan).

So good. I spent 2 years living in Staten Island and spent most of that time on the ferry to Manhattan. But now I'm almost nostalgic for that most New Jersey-esque of all 5 boroughs.

Great storytelling! Thank you for letting us take part in your journey!

Lovely to have another video, it’s been a while 🙂 Your films are always so polished that I’m left wondering if we could have more if you lowered your very high bar? It’s your bar so entirely up to you 👍

You're aware that this video makes you look like an insane person, right?

Martin Embeh

Did you really fly with a plane to America just for the video?

Anonymous

For what it's worth, Grey, this viewer was really enthralled by the style you used for this video. I don't know if it will make sense for anything in the future, but on the outside chance it makes sense again... the live action sections really did pull me in to *your* story in a way I really, really enjoyed. Super cool.

If anyone is near New York, shall we have a group trip to the Billop house? https://www.facebook.com/events/2270857146370547/

Alicia P.

This is most definitely your greatest video of all time, that manic laugh when the house was closed was killer. I can't wait to see someone in NY start interrogating the people at that museum!

matt

aw man your stuff is just getting better and better. the humor, both in the normal 'flow' of the writing and interjections and visual gags - the cuts, the mixed media, it's all coming toether!

Anonymous

Disagree entirely. It lacks the insights and random facts/knowledge that other videos had and instead writes a personal story with a lot of conjuncture.

Anonymous

Is it just me... or does anyone else read it as Disco Sway and now wants a picture or animated GIF ? ;)

New Patreon supporter here! What a great video! I love your hands doing the tippy taps on your desk at 6:02- love all the details you put into these videos! Thank you!

Is it weird that that thumbnail makes me super happy? Must have for PC desktop!

You are by far my favorite YouTube channel. Never donated to one before. I appreciate the tremendous work you put into each video. It does not go unnoticed.

The second I knew you were asking for money I had my wallet out. I have enjoyed your videos for years and I hope my humble subscription helps keep the party going. Thanks for everything!

I laughed so much when you caught the flight, but I laughed so hard when the museum was closed that my partner came to check if I was okay!
