Hello people! I hope your week was smoother than mine. I'm having a hard time finding work to cover this month's expenses and this makes my financial situation very complicated.
I didn't get to work a lot on what I had planned, which was the hint system. But not to say it was a winless week I got a really good result on something I had been working on for some time, I made a new shader for the game.
A shader is a program that tells the graphics card what to do with the textures, lights, and shapes of 3D objects, it's what allows this more cartoony look to the game. The new shader gives me more control over the colors of each object and this will fix many of the issues with the game's appearance.
One cool thing is that I created the shader simultaneously in Blender and the game engine. Blender is the program in which I model objects and it allows me to create pre-rendered images, I intend to generate attractive images to use in promoting the game.
On the left is an image rendered in Blender, on the right is the shader working in the engine. They still look different but it's a matter of configuration. They won't be identical but I want them to be as similar as possible.
Pre-rendered images will also serve to create wallpapers, concept art, pin-ups, and all sorts of extra content for you, as soon as I have time for that.
I still need to develop the shaders better and I will need to reconfigure all the lighting in the game for this to work, so you'll only see the difference in a future update.
