Sophia's combat sprite is gradually shaping up. The most crucial animation sprites are her idle, walking, swinging her baton, and dashing animations. She will have a lot more as the game shapes up. For the next build, the animations will be limited but functional, to give the player a feel for the direction I am going with the gameplay.

While a great deal of the game's navigation is in the first person (as seen in earlier screenshots) the combat will be top-down, free movement. I'm really looking forward to seeing how I can mesh these two perspectives together to create a unique overall experience.

Maybe I'm just a niche gamer or maybe I'm getting old, but I can't help seeing similarities to some of the Ultima games alongside the older Zelda games ^_^. Maybe it's the protagonist being a human who's just kinda tumbled into this crazy world full of fantasy and magic. Anyway, something I'm admittedly curious about; you mentioned in previous posts these slime-things deal touch damage - so that sounds like Sophia can hit them without getting too close/that you only have to worry if you run straight into them... but assuming other enemies show up, does the baton remain the only way to deal with them even when dodging other monsters, or do you get any other kind of weapon with greater range down the line? ( if this is too spoiler-y to answer, feel free to disregard it ^_^; )

The first person segments are very heavily inspired by Ultima and Might and Magic, I am glad you noticed the inspiration! As for the top down combat segments, I took inspiration from Secret of Mana for the sprite animations, but I'm trying to go with a smoothness of something like Cuphead (hopefully with enough tweaking I can reach that point). Sophia gets multiple weapons throughout the game. Her baton and her revolver are currently the basic ones, but she'll learn to do a few wild things as the game progresses. The slimes move slow enough that hitting them without receiving touch damage isn't an issue, as far as I can tell, but it'll depend on what my testers tell me.
