Do I like the ending? No. Do I hate it? No, but I appreciate what they did with Woody as a character. I would have preferred that this movie would build up for a potential goodbye to Woody in the 5th one and make it more natural. Yes, Woody is loyal to his child(ren) and so was Jessie and even Bo Peep, but difference is that Jessie was forgotten by her child and Molly grew out of needing the lamp (that Bo Peep came with), where as Woody always was Andy's favorite toy (even in the Buzz "phase" in the first one) so his view and him being loyal were more prominent. That was his purpose and duty to be with Andy and making sure everyone (even neglected toys) were rescued and returned to Andy's room, but when he got to Bonnie, he experienced being on the other end and collecting dust in the closet. Throughout the movie it showed Woody's need to have a purpose and have a role and in comes Forky, who is this favorite toy that needs to have that role that Woody has. Only thing I think is flawed about Woody is him wanting to be the one getting Forky (because "it's the last thing he has to do") and neglects Buzz and denies help from the other main toys (other than making them distract Bonnie and her parents from leaving) All in all, I like that the creators thought of a way for Woody to have done his services and done whatever purpose he had in relation to the child he's with... And came to realization that he weren't necessarily needed. Again appreciate what they did with Woody, but I would've liked it to have some closure, goodbye, or showing Bonnie react to missing Woody. Can't really imagine what would be the outcome and reactions those other endings would get, even with how this ended, people still (unintentionally/ indirectly) hate Bonnie for forgetting Woody, who she had promised to Andy to protect for him - reason why I think it would be better if this ending would be in the 5th Toy Story since it's way too soon (literally an ending of a movie ago) and enough time might pass in the 5th one.
