omg I was just thinking about this movie!

I feel like I need to bring this up again, as it hasn't really been answered: is there a particular reason why the method of syncing your copy and view copies involves periodically having both the movie audio and video cut in? If the viewer copy is even a split second off, it makes for very distracting moments every few minutes where there's an awkward doubling or echo of the movie audio when it cuts in. I feel like the simple solution to this would be to just not include the movie audio when it comes in, so viewers can just use the movie visual to check the sync. I feel like I can't possibly be the only person bothered by this viewer experience. I've subscribed to quite a few reaction channels over time, and this one is the only one I've seen where the watch-along reaction includes movie audio. All the others just have a one time sync or just have a blurred or heavily cropped movie visual that viewers can use as reference for sync.

It’s to avoid copyright issues. Even if it’s not on YouTube none of the video hosting sites would want you posting full movies. Some people test their luck but it’s probably not worth it.

Thats just their way of hinting you need to get better at syncing haha :P. Personally I would prefer an additional second or 2 to help sync. Holden's are the shortest of any creator I follow.

Comments misunderstood what he's saying and I do agree tho doesn't bother me massively but having the countdown then 2 or 3 synch checks early is fine lots is interesting but the channels I subscribe to just have countdowns and no audio or video after so I have a different experience and honestly Holden knows what he's doing but if we discussing it that is my take.

I never suggested that they post full movies. In fact I suggested that they include even less of the movie than they currently do by omitting the audio entirely so that it doesn’t periodically cause the audio to either be doubled in volume (if not slightly echoed due to imperfect syncing) when stacked up against the viewer copy. A short visual at the start for comparison and even periodically is all that’s necessary to ensure the commentary and viewer copies are still synchronized.

I’ve subscribed to at least a dozen reactor Patreons and the ones with the best experience are the ones that just have a heavily blurred or cropped (usually just to have the subtitles visible), silent copy of the movie going in the video. It makes it very easy to tell at a glance at literally any moment whether or not you’re still synced, because the blurred colors change any time a shot changes. I understand that Holden does this for a living, which is why I asked if there’s a reason he does it this way when it’s clearly sub-optimal. Maybe there’s some good reason for it that I haven’t considered, but I can’t imagine it would justify the imperfect watching experience. I feel like my criticism here is fairly constructive.
