So to answer why the line "somehow Palpitine returned" is so heavily criticised I believe its just symbolic of the lack of planning the Triology had. Like "uhhh fuck... nobody liked episode 8... um. Quickly write "Somehow Palpitine returned" and we'll figure it out from there"

Dawson

Like I think the line embodies the Triologys lack of planning. Not that it is a criticism of the scene itself

Povenmire

Say what you want about the prequels. But at least they were planned.

Dawson

Exactly. Also ima say it... episode 1 is objectively not that good... also 2 is meh...

Jeremy is 100% right. Andor is the best Star Wars content Disney have made.

I think because of the way they had set up Kylo Ren to be the big bad by killing Snoke (which btw I'm actually content with that decision). Then came the backlash of the last jedi which was in my opinion not justified. Disney and JJ panicked and didn't commit to what the last jedi had set up so they just started from scratch and said palpatine is the villain now. I think that is why people don't like it and it also it takes away from anaking being the chosen one and vanquishing the emperor since he comes back anyway.

Also I think Disney not hiring one creative team or one director/screenwriter to make one trilogy was such a big mistake I like TFA and I like TLJ but disney didn't want to commit to what was setup in TLJ.

Quinten Shibusawa

George is a great story teller. Just not the best at writing dialogue. I can still really enjoy the prequels because the story is there. Just have to ignore some of the bad writing. The sequels didn't even have a story.

The last jedi didnt commit to what was set up in TFA first 🤷‍♂️

Tayyib Majumder

I personally think it did follow up well on TFA and subverted expectations in clever ways

jxm82

agree to disagree on that one. I just think thats a clever way of saying he did what he wanted regardless of what was set up in 7 but I just happened to like it. which is fine. Im happy for people that liked 8. I just think its disingenuous to say they ignored what rian did without acknowledging rian did the same.
