I do like the idea of this film with the events of Terminator 2 the Cyberdyne headquarters and "most" of the backup research being destroyed relaying the creation of Skynet and Judgement Day to 2004 where someone else had to carry on the research creating a whole new timeline of future events. John Connor: I never liked this John Connor though or any live action versions besides the one from T2, Terminator: Resistance and The Sarah Connor Chronicles which is by far the best pre future war John Connor set after T2 and from my understanding canonical to the movies but it's been years since I've watched it. Future War 2033: The T-850 sent back is from 2033 a year after it killed John Conner in 2032 something you get to play from his point of view in the Terminator 3 video game set in 2033. So unlike the original timeline where Skynet was defeated in 2029 this new timeline features a Future War that began 7 years late in 2004 instead of 1997 and is still ongoing by 2033 in a world where John Conner died. Of course with this insight not to mention the deaths of his commanders by the T-X this creates a new timeline where John's future commanders are dead while John himself will know that his death is coming making it possible for him to stop that from happening maybe even reprogram that T-850 himself as an ally. T-850: The T-850 is an upgrade to the T-800 we see in the original films. Skynet had the extra years to upgrade their baseline Terminators compared to the original timeline where Skynet was shut down in 2029. There's also T-950 and T-900 Terminators in the T3 video game along with the T-X we see in this film Skynet is much more advantaged maybe learning from past mistakes in the other timelines. Terminator Salvation: The next film Terminator Salvation is set in this new timeline where Judgement Day happened in 2004 which I believe was meant to be a trilogy of movies but ended up just being a single movie. Origin idea for Salvation was Terminator mixed with Aliens but it missed that mark by alot. Would've loved to see that movie though. Original Timeline: Side note: I say original timeline but there's no doubt older timelines than this. Terminator: 1984 - Sarah Marked for Termination, Saved by Kyle Reese. Judgement Day: 1997 - Nuclear Holocaust. Future War: 2029 - Skynet Defeated, T-800 sent back to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor, Kyle Reese sent back to protect Sarah. Terminator: 1984 - Loop around of Kyle and the T-800 landing in 1984 L.A. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- New Timeline: Terminator: 1984 - Sarah Marked for Termination, Saved by Kyle Reese. Terminator 2: 1995 - Stops T-1000 from killing John while also stopping Judgement Day and the creation of Skynet by blowing up all the research in Cyberdyne labs. Terminator 3: 2004 - Revealed that Skynet was Delayed to 2004, John's future Commanders murdered by T-X, John and Kate retreat to VIP Bunker, Judgement Day Happens in 2004.
