I adore the fight between Kenobi and Maul, it makes sense that they’re technically transitioning to the more ‘simple’ duels of the original trilogy, these guys have grey hair and cracked horns. And yes, Kenobi straight up baited Maul with the Qui-Gon’s stance, and it’s Maul’s refusal to move on that gets him killed. In the final meeting of the 2, Kenobi’s line says it all: ‘Look at what I have risen above.’ All of the people he has lost hasn’t turned him, and it keeps him focused. The duel was over before it began.

I love how Obi switched from his trademark stance to Qui Gons to trick Maul. It was really awesome to see both of the characters connect one final time. Been looking forward to you two seeing this this the start of the Rebels reaction. Keep up the awesome work!

Maul fight is perfect. Old school samurai duel they are fighting before an attack is even thrown shifting stances. Obi Wan going to Quigons stance and Maul trying to use the same move he used to kill Quigon and Obi Wan quickly dispatches him by cutting straight through it.

The consistent focus of each season of Rebels is a distinct feature distinguishing it from the anthology nature of Clone Wars, as we get many threads tying together by the end. Konstantine has been but hurt about Thrawn ever since his arrival; noticeably being left out to dry against Iron Squadron. His disobedience wasn’t out of the blue; it;s been boiling for a while. He wanted to carve his own glory out of this battle and it blew up Maul has been looking for Obiwon since he went after the holocrons, and really, what is there to tell. He’s obsessed with the past, and it doomed him. He used the same maneuvers against Obiwon that he did against Quigon, but Obi was baiting him and had the counter ready. Done deal. “twin suns” is a big reason why I didn’t like KENOBI. The series was so clunky, and unnecessary. They didn’t want to just adapt/expand Twin Suns, instead they shoehorned whatever the Inquisitor thing into the show to justify a “rematch” with Vader, then rushed the CGI and don’t bother to plot anything with any care. This was the only Obi arc I needed in between ROTS/ANH, not a forced Vader confrontation. Also, the gravity well technology that was used by Thrawn to trap the rebels here was shown in S2, E10, Stealth Strike. The Rebels destroyed a prototype Interdictor Cruiser

Maul: “Look what has become of you…a rat in the desert.” Obi-wan: “Look at what I have risen above.” I love the dialogue between these two. Maul, the fallen Sith lord and Obi-wan, a Jedi master at the most important guard post in the galaxy. Perhaps my favorite episode of Rebels.

Randy Gonzales

reason obiwon battle was quick is because obi changes his stance to qui-gon stance and maul used the same move that killed qui-gon, but obione knew he was going to use that move.

You could maybe as a bonus feature to this episode, do a reaction on where Sam Witwer(The voice actor of Maul in Clone Wars and Rebels) explains that battle between Obi-wan and Maul, it's really deep and impactful.

Vosru

You left out your reaction to Luke’s cameo

André Dulac

I love how Maul is not even mad at Obiwan when he killed him, you see he was tired by his burden of hate, he wanted to end that part of his life, one way or an other. Knowing that Obiwan is working on "a weapon to destroy the sith", the responsible for all his suffering, is enough to finally give him peace.

Chris Catone

Sam Witwer (Maul) has talked about that scene. Idk if you can link on Patreon but here's a youtube video of an interview with him about it through Collider. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaowghzEFb8&t=7s It's not his best explanation of the phases of that fight but he talks about Stanton (Kenobi) choices and stuff.

Dawson

Really wish we got 2 episodes with Maul and Kenobi or just an episode were Maul is the main focus. Don't see why Ezra needs to be there, ik he's the main character but this is the culmination of over 10 years of build up. The fight is amazing tho probably the best animated lightsaber duel

Darth Mornabin

After learning the fight between Maul and Obi-Wan was an hommage to Akira Kuroswas „Seventh Samurai“ … Has that changed your point of view on the battle, Holden?

Darth Mornabin

Holden, if you want to know in detail what the creators (Especially Dave Filoni) intention were with the execution of the fight between Maul and Kenobi, I recommend to you the following 9-minute video: https://youtu.be/Rfy5jqB9aN4

I feel the maul fight worked for me. Sam Witwer talked about it in an interview. Like it was a battle of wits. How he went from his prequel stance then moved the lightsaber in to do the Qui-Gon Jinn stance which queued Maul up to do the move he did on Qui-Gon. Which Kenobi used to end the fight. Here’s the clip. https://youtube.com/watch?v=uaowghzEFb8&feature=shares

Maul vs Obi-Wan was lifted right out of Seven Samurai. I thought it was astounding. Brave. I love how they resisted having a drawn out swishy saber fight. This was more about samurai, tactics, wits, and growth, not aerobatics. There's plenty of other impressive fights in SW to look at, two great ones already featuring Maul (Phantom Menace and Clone Wars S7).

Thrawn is the best ! :D

Dawson

He's just so extra. Like for a Logical guy he has such a flare for the dramatic 🤣

Eric Cotton

You guys should actually watch the breakdown of the Maul-Kenobi fight. If you wish there was more of a battle now, you probably won't after seeing the analysis. Perfection.

The duel between Maul and Obi-Wan has a lot of tiny little detail that I can really appreciate. Here is Sam Witwer ( Maul's voice actor ) explaining it in detail. https://youtu.be/n3vp15a_Bg4

Agreed. It's a really nice way to end their relationship. Linked a video at the end of comments where Sam Witwer ( Maul's voice ) explains in detail. So much thought went into that few minutes it really shows how much they cared about the story they were telling.
