This episode was perfect in my opinion. Even when I knew certain plot points were going to happen because of the game, I was still left floored every single time the show followed (or deviated from) those certain story beats. As for Ellie trying to use her blood as "medicine," I think it's important to remember that she is still just a kid who knows that she is immune in some way to being infected. In her mind, she wants to do whatever it will take to save Sam even if it means doing something that she know might not actually work. In regards to something Jen said at the beginning of the video, I can't speak for everyone who has played the game and is watching the show, but from what I can gather, most people who have played the game seem to be enjoying the show for what it is as well as people who are coming in not having played the game at all.
