So... I like the show. About 50% of the show is great, the acting really carries alot of the show forward... Here we go... I strongly dislike 50% of this show. Reva I do not like her at all she is Trila from Fallen Order done 10x more blander and less interesting. The writing was just not interesting, the last 2 episodes focused on Obiwan and Anikins relationship... why couldn't the whole show have flash backs and really build up their relationship. The Shaky Cam was fucking unbelievable like just BUY A TRIPOD!!! I am so disappointed because its not laughably bad like Boba and its not amazing like Mando it's just there an average mess, 5/10 thanks for coming. Also Holden couldn't agree more on positive male role models, as someone who didn't have a positive male role model it is nice to have those values portrayed on screen, think Geralt in the Witcher 3 is my favourite dad in media.

If you are happy with the show more power to you but holding the show to the standard in which it was marketed to us (as the rematch of the century) isn't unfair criticism. Holding Disney to the standards they hit with Mandalorian Seasons 1 and 2 is okay because we know they can do better than average

Dawson

Also love how Holden did the Leonardo Decaprio meme, "Ah he said the thing!" Lmao

Jamie Tartt

so will you move onto ms.marvel now?

Reva living after sparing luke doesn't make sense either, it's established through characters like Reva, Maul and Vader that you can survive extreme injuries through the darkside but as soon as you let go of that hate the pain is to much and you die. Can't give you the best example without spoilers but you can argue that Vader died because he no longer had the darkside giving him the strength to live

I am glad you liked it. I did not, too many things do not work for me. But I am optimistic for Andor, Ahsoka and Mando.

Povenmire

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry Anakin. For all of it”. This line broke me.

I am happy that people enjoyed this but I wonder what was the purpose of this show. Everything in this show was inconsequential, besides all of the plot holes or canon-breaking elements. " Given that this is what we received" and "Anything with Darth Vader I am absolutely here for" are statements that worry me for the future of Star Wars. Film experience is subjective, but there are objective elements to filmmaking that will qualify it as good cinema. This show is devoid of many of those elements, and Disney will just add a cool moment or a cameo and we fans eat it up. Star Wars is becoming sub par written franchise but hey here's a cameo, or look another cameo. This show cannot stand up against any of it's contemporaries (i.e. Stranger Things, The Boys, Ms. Marvel, Succession). And that's the problem, why doesn't it stand up or even exceed these other properties. This was "Obi Wan Kenobi (or Ben)! This is a top 3 most popular character in Star Wars and this was the content we were given. You both will eventually get to Star Wars Rebels, and ask yourselves why were the inquisitors written this way in Kenobi?Vader wouldn't have let Kenobi or Reva live, it was for the sake of plot. Qui gon (at this moment of time) couldn't show up in physical form yet. Leia knowing who Obi Wan Kenobi was before A New Hope (another inconsistency). The fact he didn't mind wipe her is crazy to me. The fact that Obi Wan let Reva go with knowledge of the siblings is "Mind Breaking". NO SPOILERS but in Rebels Kenobi took care of someone who had an inkling of who Luke was. Vader was portrayed as super weak, when he couldn't best his old master who hadn't trained in over 10 years. Kenobi using his emotions and channeling the dark side(Look up Dark Side Tenets) , isn't something that Jedi do or Kenobi would do. Luke at this time has seen a lightsaber and the force, but in A New Hope he had no clue about either of them. I can keep going but all I want is the "cool star wars moments" in a well written and cared about story. If this wasn't a Star Wars property people wouldn't be as forgiving or charitable, and that is were the problem lies. We shouldn't be force fed this quality of content and say atleast Darth Vader was cool.. This is the biggest entertainment IP in the world, why can't we have GOT level writing with Star Wars, or even a Stranger Things level + Cool Star Wars Moments.

My breaking point was Obi Wan's message to Leia about her parents while her theme plays. May have been a tear or two ngl

Also worth noting that dark side users aren't simply devoted or bound to each other because they share the same side of the force. Reva's primary motivation of getting revenge on Vader (first trying to kill him and then one of his children) seems like the driving factor for her turn to the dark side and its continuous use. Once she has a moment where she stops choosing revenge, that's the main pillar of her dark side characteristic gone, perhaps explaining her turn at the end. Same as when Vader chooses Luke over the emperor, albeit a little more quickly done in this case.

I truly mean this in the nicest way possible, but if you want to learn more about Anakin and Obi-Wan's relationship, watch the prequels and the Clone Wars. We didn't need any more flashbacks than what we got. You can already discern their relationship with one another by watching just the prequels alone. The Clone Wars just fleshes all of that out. Anymore flashbacks would have just been filler for the sake of showing the audience something they've already seen before. Don't get me wrong, flashbacks are cool, but they need and should be relevant to the story. Part five's flashbacks were relevant to the current story that was being told. I don't really see how they could have kept doing flashbacks throughout the entire show without them getting stale really quickly. After all, we're here to watch a story about where Obi-Wan currently is, not where he has been. Anyways, that's just my two cents on the situation.

Yeah, I've got to disagree with you on the whole "there are objective elements to filmmaking that will qualify it as good cinema." As a film student, I've learned that as a filmmaker you are given a set of tools to use. It's how you use those tools that counts, not necessarily what you use. Everything you said in your comment is purely subjective (and that's okay). We're all allowed to have our own opinion. For instance, I believe that the show was really well written/directed. Star Wars has never had Shakespearean levels of writing (nor should it). Star Wars has always been a fun/goofy franchise made for kids. This show followed that in a way that was meaningful and told a fulfilling story about a man who learns to forgive himself and move on, a very human thing that we have all gone through at one point or another in our lives.

Holden I also loved it. I know it is not perfect, but something about Star Wars is better than nothing. Thanks for the review!

Ye mate, just keep shilling for shit products. That use lazy writing techniques to reestablish backstory

Dawson

Written really well? Okay... there is one ship that Vader destroys, then another ship magically appears but the hypordrive isn't working... and it turns out that ship has another ship inside with a WORKING hyperdive. Is this good writing?.. Reva could be an excellent character but she flips on a dime, won't kill a child but she is willing to integrate and fucking torture another child. Is good writing? The Grand Inquisitor getting stabbed adds nothing to the plot, the other Inquisitors add nothing to the plot, Obiwan struggles use the force at the start of episode 4 but never mind he can now stop the pressure of the ocean... is this good writing? Also the Direction is better in Clone Wars and that's an animated show... like come on man this is top tier shilling. Also Maul in Clone Wars is written to be Shakespearing... so

Dawson

That's all true but like Vader she should immediately die after she turns good

Holden Harmon, if I was made God of Star Wars,I wouldn’t do anymore Kenobi series. My ultimate goal would be to keep the franchise fresh. So only one Kenobi series. Also, I would limit the amount of overall Str Wars properties to come out every year. Like Kenobi, Mandalorian, and Bad Batch. That’s it, Boba Fett next year or year after. Lastly, I would limit the amount of seasons for each property. Like Mandalorian must finish series in 5 or 6 seasons max. No milking it as long as they are buying it. Also, I would put together creative teams, then leave them alone. I think too many hands in the cookie jar ruined the sequel movies. But I actually liked the Kenobi series, I would hate to dilute it though.
