As of June 1, some patrons (that don't already) will have an amount of sales tax on donations. Here is roughly what Patreon have told creators: Basically, laws have been passed that, varying by area, declare some kinds of Patreon (or other donation-based financial support system) rewards as products, therefore subject to sales tax. It will depend on where you are and how taxes are calculated on different patron rewards in different areas. This had already been in effect in Europe for a number of years.

I've been working on the back end, using the new Patreon tools, to try and get patrons affected as little as possible which I assume is the same for all creators.

Sorry for the unfortunate news.

The Taxman is probably a diamond rank entity, it is nigh unstoppable

Good to know. Thanks for the info

Saw an email, got hyped, feel betrayed

Move to Oregon we have no sales tax :-)

It is a special type of agony to see my favorite novel post a new chapter.....about taxes. Exquisite.

Taxation is theft? Lol

Also, that was a really great title, had me fooled thinking this was part of the book

Thanks to the stimulus money, I'm able to stick around while I wait for the next Volume. My little brother and I have been discussing possible theories while trying to get our other brothers and dad to try out the story. Thanks for the amazing first volume Shirtaloon, you have many people craving the next one already.

But what what might that mean? Less chapters? Is shirt quitting patreon?

Anonymous

I don't think he will quit patreon. This just means that it will be more expensive for us. For example, I live in Hungary, and I have already been paying an extra +27% for my patreon subscriptions.

Thank God I live in Oregon, so no sales tax.

Henrik Nørgaard

I already Pay an extra 25% so no change for me.

Endoria

I have already been paying taxes in Germany, so it does not change a thing for me.

Yup, already been paying that levy to the overlords of darkness since the beginning.

It's funny. When I read this, I thought, "This is a side-story, a play on the old phrase about how only two things are certain ... Death and Taxes." So Jason's sitting there, prepared to meet Death and instead... it's the Taxman.
