Yeah this episode was designed to be a roller coaster of emotions on purpose. Essentially you went through what Toji Fushiguro was deliberately putting Gojo and Getou through in order to catch them off guard. It's one of the more brilliantly designed episodes in any series imo.

Toji is actually smart if you look it in a certain way, he placed a bounty on Riko so that sorcerers and non sorcerers alike will go after her so that they can fight Gojo and Geto (who protect her so she can assimilate with Tengen) which in turn drain their powers and abilities as much as they can so that he can come in later to finish them off. Genius.

Dude they way they played the happy song and normally people make jokes about something like that bad happening after something calm and the one time they actually do it. That's what got me, I got to give Gege some credit for writing this.

This was my favorite arc of the anime by far, and since I read ahead in the manga I think it'll remain that way. I truly love this depiction of the young jjk sorcerers.
