Candy Morningstar- Thank you so much once again, for another great reaction for Lucifer, Morgan!! I really love this episode a lot! When I first watched it... Of course, I wanted to slap Lucifer for being so stupid. He is absolutely being stupid. And I couldn't help but cringe every time Candy comes onscreen in the beginning of the episode because she acts like such a bimbo, but I still actually really liked her from the very beginning. Because she's so sweet and adorable in her own way too. And then when it's revealed in the end that she is Lucifer's plan to get back at his mother and brother and to learn what Charlotte is really after, as well as to help himself to get back into Chloe's good graces, not to mention that she's not at all the persona she portrays to help Lucifer... I immediately came to love her all the more very much. Especially upon seeing her as her true self. This episode becomes even better all throughout because of the twist that Candy's ditziness is all an act and Lucifer's plan. Fantastic!!! And I really love the actress who plays Candy for her role as Candy Morningstar too... Lindsey Gort. I would love to see Candy for multiple episodes. :) One of my favorite moments within this episode, is Lucifer's confrontation with Amenadiel, when Amenadiel comes to ask Lucifer to explain why he's with Candy after Lucifer had asked him to look after Chloe for him while he was away. I love, love, love when Lucifer finally admits his real reasons for "marrying" Candy, is because he is saving Chloe from her feelings for him because he sadly believes Chloe isn't in control of her feelings. That he's protecting her from him. The look on Lucifer's face and the sadness in his eyes in this moment is heartbreaking. And as we know... Lucifer doesn't lie, so of course this revelation is very true. His heartbreak from needing to break things off with Chloe is definitely not just a part of his ruse. It's a harsh way for Lucifer to pull away from any relationship that would have come from their feelings for one another in Chloe's eyes for sure. But I sense that this might have been the only way Lucifer knew how to get Chloe to accept that they shouldn't be together, as much as he wishes they could be. Chloe would have fought against Lucifer pulling away from her out of fear, or if he revealed as much of the truth that she might believe as to why they can't be together. And Lucifer knows this. Like I've said before in my comments under the last few episodes... I believe that Lucifer's and Chloe's feelings for one another are very real. Not another of God's manipulations. And of course, Chloe wouldn't know any different either way. Which is why I absolutely feel badly for Chloe because she doesn't understand the true reasons for doing all he's doing. But Lucifer believes her feelings for him are a lie, or a manipulation of his father's. However, deep down... Lucifer doesn't believe anyone can really love him, given who he is and all the pain he believes he's caused. This is all why Lucifer is so adamant about saying Chloe's feelings for him aren't real, and it's crushing him. Which is why Lucifer is having such a difficult time believing in his mother's love as well, after she used his feelings for Chloe to manipulate him in order to deepen his hatred and anger against God for her own gain, knowing full well that his fear of Chloe not truly loving him would crush him. Which makes Lucifer's sacrifice to protect Chloe, even by pushing her away that much more powerful. It's sad because Chloe doesn't understand it and they're both hurting, but I appreciate that Lucifer's true and sincerest motive for doing all of this outside of having Candy manipulate his mother and brother too, is to protect Chloe. In a way, it is selfish, and he is hurting her. And it's crushing him to do so too because you can see in his eyes when Chloe keeps scolding him throughout the episode that he knows he is hurting her. But Lucifer is doing so, knowing that should Chloe one day discover the truth about God putting her here in Lucifer's path and to make her become someone forced to love the Devil... especially if it turns out all to be true, this truth would most likely hurt her far worse. Next... I also somewhat like how Amenadiel stands up for their mother, even though I still hate her for manipulating Lucifer so cruelly. I also find it a bit annoying too, because Amenadiel is constantly defending her actions knowing full well that she's okay with hurting Lucifer emotionally in order to get everything she wants for herself. But with all that aside... it's good of him to encourage Lucifer to try to make things right with their mother, because he is right that Charlotte did sacrifice a lot by going down to Hell to save her son. I just wish I could say that she's learned from her mistakes too. Especially since we see in the very end that Charlotte immediately goes right back to trying to manipulate Lucifer by bringing up the flaming sword being Azrael's blade and that its powerful enough for them to be able to cut through the gates of Heaven. Whether or not she has redeemed herself at all... You'll have to wait and see. It's clear that she's desperate to find her way back into Heaven, or what the angels call... the Silver City. And she will do whatever it takes to get back home. And I most certainly don't condone her actions in doing everything she can to hurt Lucifer, all so she can return to Heaven. But with this being said... I love, love, love that Lucifer has asked Candy for help to manipulate his mother in order to trick her into revealing her true motivations and plans, knowing that hurting his mother in turn by convincing her that she had broken him so much that he would go out and doing something so rash as to marry a bimbo is the only way to break through to her enough to learn her true motives. It's a brilliant plan. And in her talk with Amenadiel later on, you can see in her eyes and face upon learning she might have broken her son, that she does love Lucifer in spite of everything. And yes... Lucifer and Candy are actually married and are now gonna go through a divorce. Because since Lucifer doesn't lie, he can't introduce Candy to anyone as his wife if it wasn't true. And them being married is a necessary ruse in order for Lucifer to manipulate his mother, without having to lie. Another of my favorite moments is when Chloe and Lucifer go to the drummer's house to talk with him about being suspected of killing the band's lead singer. However, Chloe steps out of the room once Lucifer answers Candy's call, until he's suddenly attacked by their suspect who turns out to be their killer, and Chloe must talk him down to save Lucifer, eventually being forced to shoot him. Lucifer only ever lies to himself, especially in regards to admitting his true feelings for Chloe. I absolutely love Lucifer's struggles throughout this episode to try to earn back Chloe's trust in spite of how rash and foolish he's been since he left her two weeks earlier, only to come back to Los Angeles married to an exotic dancer who's a ditsy blonde with barely an IQ. Sadly, upon Chloe constantly pushing him away and him failing her, it leads to Lucifer feeling that he's got nothing left to live for if he can't remain Chloe's partner. And when he's being strangled, Lucifer begs the killer to kill him, and even demands that Chloe just shoot him when the killer just becomes confused by Lucifer's and Chloe's interactions. Which is so sad, because you know Lucifer means what he's saying in this moment because he doesn't lie. He is so desperate to have Chloe in his life somehow, that without her, he would rather die. My heart always just breaks for him a little more in this scene every time I watch it. Thankfully, Chloe is able to shoot their killer only in spite of her own confusion by Lucifer's words, and manages to save Lucifer in spite of his recklessness. And then... Candy arrives at the apartment to see if Lucifer is okay upon hearing him get attacked through the phone, when she finds Chloe and thanks her for saving her husband's life. And in doing so, without Lucifer asking her to, she proves to Chloe that Lucifer means well and loves working with Chloe more than anything. But more so... She helps Chloe to understand just how broken he had become upon her getting sick and then nearly dying. Letting her know that he was a wreck without her, fearing he would never be with her again. And I love Candy for this. She's so sweet and so when it's revealed in the end that she only married him and was just acting like a bimbo all just to con Lucifer's family and co-workers for him, I absolutely love this reveal all the more! :) Thankfully... Candy's words get through to Chloe as she comes to understand she isn't the only one of them who suffered from her near death experience, and because of this, she nonchalantly tells Lucifer she's happy to have him back as her partner again as if nothing's changed between them before they tried to get together as more than just partners, by telling him she would see him in the morning. And I love the look of surprise and happiness on his face when he smiles at her and she at him. So cute. :) I don't condone Lucifer's actions in hurting Chloe as he has because in a way, he is being selfish. However, I do understand his actions and reasons for doing so. He so desperately wants to be a part of her life in any way he can. And in the end... As twisted and confused as he might be in trying to make things right between himself and Chloe, Lucifer is doing everything for her. To protect her. In regards to why I believe that Lucifer has asked Candy to manipulate Chloe too... It's not so that he can win back Chloe's heart as much as he wishes to do so, but it's because Lucifer simply wants Chloe to be in his life in any way that he can convince her to be so. However, he needs Chloe to understand that they can't be anything more than friends and that friends is all he wants them to be. And Chloe never would have accepted this had Lucifer attempted to tell her that they can't be anything more than friends because it would mean her life was in danger, or her feelings for him were fake. Chloe would have thought Lucifer was just being crazy lie she often thinks with him. And Lucifer really needed them to once again become nothing more than just friends and partners. This is why Candy is involved in a ruse towards her too. Lucifer chooses to do whatever he can so they can become partners again, as if they never started to grow deeper feelings for one another. Lucifer needs Chloe and wants her to want him be a part of his life, in any way she'll let him be. In spite of the bitter pill he must swallow in the belief that they can never be anything more no matter how much he longs for them to be so. He just wants to protect Chloe from everything, and is willing to let her go in order to assure that she is able to keep her choice to choose who she loves. And Lucifer understands the importance of free will better than anyone, since it is the one thing he truly desires outside of Chloe, and has ever since he was born. So heartbreaking and yet I love him all the more for it. As for the overall case... I enjoy it. It's not great, but it's still kind of fun. I didn't expect the killer to be the drummer of the band. More than anything... I like how this case leads Chloe and Lucifer to going undercover as a married couple when Chloe poses as Candy to try to get information out of the lawyer and wannabe manager of the band. It's very funny to see Chloe so out of her element. And I love the awkwardness between Lucifer and Chloe throughout their investigation, and seeing them struggle to come back together as partners. You're absolutely right that this case is nothing special. However, that it is there to help our characters work through their feelings. Mainly Lucifer and Chloe, of course. I especially love the moment Lucifer sings Eternal Flame for Chloe, while also drawing out their current suspect... the band's base guitar player. His voice once again is absolutely phenomenal. He is so adorable while he's singing to her, as he keeps his eyes on Chloe the whole time. Also... I love that while Chloe is trying really hard not to smile because she's so annoyed and angry with him, yet she still can't help but smile and even laugh. So cute!!! :) Next... I enjoy the scene between Lucifer and Charlotte towards the end as well. when Lucifer finally comes to confront his mother. Like I said in my comments for your last reaction... I know that Charlotte does love her son. And that in her mind, she means well. However, I understand Lucifer's anger towards her and why he can't trust a word she says to him even more so. Yet I love that he still acknowledges her own sacrifice she made for him too. And the truth is that he is really far more angry with God because He's never once lifted a finger to help him since casting him down into Hell, while Charlotte does at least make some effort to help him... whether she's right or wrong in how she goes about doing so. And then... Charlotte finally reveals to Lucifer why she's been doing all she has done which is exactly what Lucifer wants and why he has really done all he has with Candy to gain, as Charlotte tells him her plans to return to the Silver City, and in so doing, she also tells him about Azrael's blade being the key to them getting back in. And after she's finished, I love the look of concern on Lucifer's face, because now Lucifer realizes he has to make a difficult choice... To stay on Earth with Chloe, and among his friends and the humans he's become so attached to, or to return home to Heaven like his mother and brother want of him, to where he is still unwanted and doesn't feel like he belongs. Love it! And yes... Azrael's blade is the same blade Uriel had and that Lucifer used to kill Uriel with. Charlotte discovered that it is the Flaming Sword, upon seeing it flame up when Lucifer is holding it while growing incredibly angry with his mother, shown in the end of the previous episode... Trip to Stabby Town. I absolutely love the ending between Lucifer and Candy. I love finally seeing her true self, and hearing her real voice. It's also revealed to us that Lucifer had done something big for Candy while in Vegas that truly meant a lot to her, which is why she's helping him now to repay him for his help. That he had somehow saved her life while he was there. This is a story I definitely want to learn more about. And I am also so happy that Lucifer isn't really using Candy in a way that would have wound up hurting her, because while she is a bit of a ditz under her ruse, she is also very sweet. She wouldn't have deserved to have been just used in this way. As for the money he spent in the beginning upon giving it to those shady guys... It could actually be for two things, and in a way... I actually think that the money Lucifer pays is for both. One... Lucifer could be paying someone off in order to save and protect Candy just like Candy later reveals to him that he had saved her life from someone hurting her just like this revelation could imply. And two... It could also simply be payment for Candy's wedding ring that she's wearing throughout this episode, which is why she attempts to give it back to Lucifer in the end, only for him to allow her to keep it, while also offering her another of his rings that must be quite valuable as well... as he jokes with her about divorce not being cheap. I think this is just his way of helping her out so she can start a new life after her troubling life Lucifer helped her out of. And I really love this about Lucifer. He doesn't see himself as a good man, but he really is. He cares about people more than even he really understands. And lastly... I really love how Dan is trying to help Chloe to understand that she ought to forgive Lucifer, as he attempts to defend Lucifer, which is really surprising, given that Dan has never been one to be in Lucifer's corner so to speak. More so... I just absolutely love how Dan explains he's defending Lucifer now, because he recognizes that Lucifer had risked his life to save Chloe's when she was dying, even though he doesn't know how Lucifer had done so. I really appreciate this about Dan very much and it shows how far his own relationship with Lucifer has come already after just a few episodes, since their heart to heart in the end of the previous episode... My Little Monkey. :) Oh... And I doubt that anyone's told Chloe how Lucifer really saved her life, given that no one other than Amenadiel, Maze, Linda, and Charlotte know that he actually died to go down to Hell for her. And since Chloe, Dan, and Ella aren't aware of who any of them really are, Chloe certainly doesn't understand Lucifer's sacrifice for her. I just completely understand why Lucifer doesn't believe Chloe could really love him. I mean... He's been under the belief for all these years he had spent in Hell, that his own family don't love him, and they've never understood him. Lucifer was cast into Hell by his own father, whom his mother claims his father wanted to destroy him for rebelling against Him. And on top of it all... Lucifer has been vilified for all eternity. Seen by the entire world to be the embodiment of all evil. And because of this, Lucifer believes himself to be a monster as well. He acts cocky and full of himself, but it's really nothing more than the mask he wears to hide the truth. Especially from himself. Deep down, Lucifer sees himself a monster. So, of course he isn't going to believe someone as special as Chloe could truly love him. Lucifer isn't blameless, and he has made some really big mistakes. But he most certainly doesn't deserve all of the pain he's suffered throughout his entire life thanks to his own family. I understand Lucifer, so his denial that he could be loved by Chloe or anyone else doesn't annoy me, aside from me just wanting to see them together and happy. :) Thank you so much again, dear friend! Another fun reaction for another fantastic episode! I can't wait for many more Lucifer reactions to come!! Until next time... Sincerely, Heidi
