I feel like the reasons for the Andrew Garfield hate is because people still loved Tobey McGuire. I get everyone has their own opinion, but mine is that Andrew is my favorite Spider-Man. He has this emotional range that I didn't feel with Tobey or Tom. On another note, Stan Lee wanted Gwen to be the one for Peter. His Lois Lane if you will, but some people at Marvel decided that Pete needed a big tragedy so more or less behind Stan's back, they issued a comic killing Gwen Stacy. It was too late for Stan to do anything so it became her destiny to die.
