To show how meticulously planned out this series was (ok was manga before anyway, but in the manga too) - in like the third I think episode, where the commandant was watching Eren successfully balance on the practice EDM mount after getting a non faulty buckle, he's watching and says to himself: "Grisha... Today your son... became a solder." You think nothing of it at the time, but yeah in retrospect the confirmation he knew Eren's dad was right there.
