Good discussion. In re of Hawk: I think you’re definitely right, like people need to be responsible for their actions regardless of their background, etc. I just think, for me, there’s just something tragic about his character. This bullied kid who literally had all of his self-worth stripped away by being bullied, finally being mentored and coached to actualise his self. But he still has all that hurt and anger, and that’s where the deeper point comes in, I think. A kid like that needs to be taught properly and how to properly harness his anger. PS- You’re definitely right about the original Karate Kid. But I think Johnny, really everybody, just has a tendency to remember bad things that happen to them whilst conveniently forgetting the bad things they do.
