I think up to that point when she was face to face with Emma, she was still just trying to survive. It's true we have no idea what will become of Isabella, if she'll be aloud to stay as mom or be killed. She had to switch off her empathy long before in order to live longer than anybody else.

I haven't read the manga or anything but my theory with Norman is that he is alive and just how the highest scoring girls could be recommended to be moms, I've wondered if the highest scoring boys could be recommenced for something else. and he's doing some training for who knows what now. can't wait for season 2!
