Great reaction! I have definitely heard people say the first two episodes are not as good, although I disagree. I think the third is where it picks up a bit, and people who aren't invested yet get into it, but for me the first two have always been some of my favorite episodes. Also, Green Gables is set on Prince Edward Island in Canada, and the whole show is Canadian, originally coming out on a Canadian network. The orphanage I think is supposed to be on the mainland in Canada, so they take the ship from the island to the mainland. And I think the character of Marilla is a little complicated. There's some backstory that hasn't really been talked about yet, but basically she's living on her own with her brother who doesn't talk much, and definitely doesn't talk about his emotions. He's out working the farm most of the day, so she is essentially alone in the house most of the time, and has been for years. The backstory helps explain a little more, but I don't want to give any spoilers. But I would assume after all that time not expressing emotions or having anyone around to bring that out in her, learning how to show someone love again would be difficult. So I think she's learning how to do that again. And I think the whole family thing is complicated. They are both kind of her parents, even though they're siblings. But I love the last scene, and I think in that time, signing the family bible is equivalent to being adopted. Anyway, great reaction! Can't wait for the next one!
