"Boston is the Florida of the east coast"

Ryan Carroll

Scrolling past this looking for episodes while listening to the episode on the Cash app murder RIGHT as Brace says Elliot Smith. Brace oughta do an episode on Robert Anton Wilson (wrote a lot about synchronicities, which I don't believe in, but he's so fun to read) and his Illuminatus trilogy. Influenced a shit ton of conspiracy culture. He intentionally tried to induce insanity in himself as a lark in the early 70s and came out as agnostic about everything. His pet hypothesis was the original Illuminati started by throwing orgies so good they telepathically made contact with the Federation from Star Trek. Also one of the notable examples of a libertarian pre-Rothbard hijacking the term from left. So basically an anarchist. Acquaintances with Philip K Dick.

@Yung Chomsky the music was dope in this one, Michael Nyman vibes, good shit man

The Brace monologue at the end of this episode is one of the best moments in TrueAnon’s catalogue. Props to YungChomsky for the Blade Runner-esque synth he put under it, it was really fitting. I appreciate that the story doesn’t need to have a cut and dry answer but the transparency about his experience with drugs, suicidal family/friends and being low was really moving.

great rant at the end

Really appreciated brace’s rant at the end. It was so sincere and heartfelt and cathartic. Recently lost a good friend and he perfectly captures the bafflement, anger and sincere tragedy when someone takes their life.

I have and probably always will be a huge Elliott Smith fan. Yeah I know, that makes me a dweeb, but I don't even care a lick. Elliott Smith was a musical and lyrical mastermind, super potent and subdued. This episode made me take the plunge in becoming a Patreon.

DJ Shadow is another obvious trip hop artist. RDJ2 (sp?) is one. Trip hop isn't bad, but it's a little too minor key for me all the time

Elliott was the greatest songwriter of his generation & it's a crime that the unlicensed quack "doctor" who put him through hell, rather than being investigated and arrested, went on to convince evangelical Christians to drink bleach until they started shitting out their intestines, then told them that they were expelling "rope worm" parasites, and that this process could cure anything from the common cold to AIDS. The world of sham "rehab" and MMS (variously Miracle Mineral Solution, Miracle Medical Solution, etc.) is a one-shot case study for the necessity of universal healthcare, so that, if nothing else, pieces of shit like William Hitt won't be able to prey on vulnerable, scared, desperate people like Elliott anymore.

And he appears to have spelled "Elliott" with two Ls and two Ts after a street in Portland, I think Elliott Avenue?, where he lived in a crusty band-guy house with Heatmiser.

Sort of annoying episode. People always try to project some logical reason behind depression or other mental illness. It's true that abuse seems to cause it but it's not always so. The drive to explain the illness logically leads to puritanical blame even from the sick person. They think there must be a reason for the feelings beyond being sick and there does not need to be. Severely mentally ill people have also mutilated themselves in incredibly horrific ways, so if you're examining statistics, take that into your accounting. I have no idea if this guy I never heard of killed himself or not, but the mental illness discussion I felt warranted a response.
