April Dormitory Diary Entry - Watanabe (Patreon)

Hey there, Watanabe here.

This is my dormitory diary entry for April.

April's here, and that means the new hires are coming. I'm a bit nervous, but also excited to see who's joining us.

So, I recently started watching Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Masters. I didn't know much about it besides being an anime about a card game, but it's super fun to watch. Being a Jump series, it's got those intense, sports drama vibes, plus the artwork is just so cool I can't get enough of it.

The reason I got into Yu-Gi-Oh! was a conversation I had with some peers about Takahiro Kagami's book "How to Draw Hands." (I feel like a lot of people aiming to be animators have this book, but maybe it's just me?) I used to study by copying from the book initially, but lately, I've been watching anime whenever I have free time instead of studying books. Anyway, I still haven't finished reading the books I borrowed from the dorm, so I better get through those soon... with any luck.

4月の寮生日記を投稿します。

4月になりました。いよいよ新人が入ってくるということで少し緊張していますが、どんな人が入ってくるのか楽しみでもあります。

この間遊戯王デュエル・マスターズを観始めました。カードゲームの話というくらいしか知識がなかったのですが、すごく楽しく観れています。ジャンプ作品ということで、スポ根的な熱い展開が繰り広げられるのに加え、作画がとてもかっこいいので観ていて飽きません。

遊戯王を見ようと思ったきっかけは、同期と加々美高浩さんの「手の描き方」という本の話をする事があったからです。（アニメーターを目指す人でこれを持ってる人結構多い気がするんですがどうでしょうか…。）初めの頃は本を見て模写するなどしていた気もしますが、最近は時間があるとアニメを観てしまうため、本を読んで勉強…というのが出来ていません。とりあえず寮でお借りした本がまだ全然読めていないので、それを読み終わらせたいと思います。近いうちに…。
