March Dormitory Diary Entry - Sakamoto (Patreon)

Hello, this is Sakamoto with my dormitory diary entry for March.

As the weather gets warmer, it’s getting easier to stay comfortable. However, it's also the season for pollen, and my nose is constantly running, making life difficult.

Starting in April, new hires will be joining the field! The keyframe test is also available to me whenever I’m ready to take it, and I’ve decided that this is the month I’m gonna try and pass it. From what I've heard, our test is different from other studios, as it lasts a month and consists of three cuts, one prop, and one illustration assignment. I estimate it’ll take me about one to two weeks to complete everything. I get a fixed salary plus a commission on my drawings, but I recently got a pay cut, which is taking a mental toll on me. Honestly, I’m considering leaving my studio for a variety of reasons, pay being among them.

On another note, I recently watched"BLUE GIANT." Although I don't know much about jazz, I really enjoyed it. The sound quality was amazing since music was the main theme of the movie. Personally, I loved the sound of the drums during the solo part, even over the saxophone. Regarding the animation, the performances were made using CG rather than 2D animation, and it looked a bit cheap. However, the camera work sold the idea that I was watching a live performance and gave the whole movie a bit of pizzazz. For that reason, I was willing to sort of let it slide.

However, the final scene had both excellent sound and animation; It’s really worth seeing those parts in the movie theater.

３月の寮生日記を投稿します。

暖かくなってきて、少しずつ過ごしやすくなってきました。だけど、花粉の季節にもなってきたので、鼻水が凄くて大変です。

４月からは新しい人たちが入ってくるのもあり、自分で受ける時期を決められるので、３月に原画試験を受けることにしました。原画試験の内容を周りから聞いている感じ、おそらく他の会社とは違うのかなと思いました。まず日数が１ヶ月あり、内容が原画３カット、プロップ１枚、課題のイラスト１枚と結構なボリュームがあります。自分の場合全て完成させるのに１～２週間はかかります。しかも、うちは給料が固定給+出来高なので収入が減ってしまいかなり精神的にやられています。他にもいろいろあり会社をやめようか真剣に悩んでいます。

話は変わりますが、先日BLUE GIANTというアニメ映画を見てきました。ジャズについては全く詳しくないのですがかなり楽しめました。やはり音楽が主題の映画というのもあり音響がかなりすごかったです。個人的にお気に入りなのはサックスではなくドラムのソロパートの時の音がすごく好きでした。作画については演奏パートが作画ではなく少し安っぽい３Dなのがちょっと微妙でしたが、演奏という映像としては地味なものをカメラワークをライブ映像のようにかなり動かして華やかに見せていたので、仕方なかったのかなーとも思いました。

でも最後の見せ場は音も作画もかなり面白かったので、映画館でみて良かったと思える作品でした。
